Renault Megane named Car of the Year 2017 in Bulgaria

«Car of the Year 2017» in Bulgaria was Renault Megane (car description). The French model won the main competition category by a wide margin over the second Volvo S90 — 147 to 111.5 points. The top five was joined by Mercedes E-Class (107.5 points), Citroen C3 (85.5 points) and Suzuki Baleno (43.5 points).

In the crossover category, the Skoda Kodiaq was chosen as number 1, and in the multifunctional car, the prize went to the Nissan Navara. The Hyundai Ioniq hybrid was named eco-car of the year, while the Volvo S90 was named premium. The award was presented to representatives of the Korean brand by Lorita Radeva, Chairman of the Standing Committee for Environmental Protection of the Sofia Municipal Council. The new generation Citroen C3 was chosen as the city car.

The 20th edition of Car of the Year 2017 in Bulgaria was held with a record number of participants. The most prestigious automotive awards in our country are presented by the «Press Auto Club Bulgaria» — an association of journalists writing on automotive topics.

In the primary selection of the only national competition «Car of the Year 2017», 55 cars were nominated. Jury members cannot participate in the final stage of the competition and in the selection of «Car of the Year» unless they were personally present at the testing of each of the five nominated finalists in individual categories. Participating cars had to be all new or completely new generation of existing models in the lineup.

Only vehicles with up to 7 seats are eligible for the Car of the Year Grand Prize. Voting takes place in two stages. In the first roll-call voting, the jury members determine the finalists of the competition, indicating no more than five nominations in separate categories in descending order of preference. At the final stage, the jury members determine the winners by roll call according to six criteria and a point system.
